A Note from Paul Baker, Reading Group Coordinator:

Thanks all for a very lively discussion last Sunday of our current book “Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are”. Although we didn’t cover all of the planned chapters, nevertheless, let’s try to finish the book next time at our meeting on Sunday Dec. 10.

I brought along some candidates for the next book and there was a surprising agreement on the next one. So, beginning hopefully in January we will be reading:

“Improbable Destinies: Fate, Chance, and the Future of Evolution” by Jonathan Losos (2017)

The book is well written and addresses some big picture aspects of evolution: contingent versus convergent evolution.
