WES Philosophy Group
Scientific results and religious beliefs are often used to suggest ways in which it might be best for us to live. Is religious humanism combining the best science and empathetic ethics where the two spheres of thought overlap and seeking common truths around which to best design our systems? How might religious humanism become more of an agent of desirable change for all people? How might knowledge of philosophy and other disciplines contribute to creating a more ethical world? Be a listening ear, share your knowledge, or find collaborators for a work in progress. We strive to maintain diversity in all areas to maximize our perspectives, so all who are interested are encouraged to attend regardless of their relationship with WES or familiarity with the topics involved. Our aim is to teach and learn from one another, and to improve our understandings and share them more widely. New to WES and looking for a place to start? Enjoy discussions, debates, diving deep into a topic, or sitting back and listening to others? Seeking an energetic learning environment that provides intellectual stimulation as well as a deeper understanding of concepts, terms, etc? Curious about Ethical Culture, religious humanism, and the like? Happy to offer your views, experiences, knowledge and wisdom to others? Interested in expanding on group discussions to share ideas with a wider audience in some form? Join us any 4th Sunday at 1:00 PM and/or any 2nd Monday at 7:30 PM. Contact Aylin Gencturk (Lin) at (202) 702-8816 or a.genctur@gmail.com for more information. Join our email list to stay up-to-date with meeting times, news, topics, and become part of the discussion from wherever you are.
