Still Here, Still Strong rally on Sunday

I invite you to join me, other faith and humanist communities, and people of good will at the Still Here, Still Strong rally this Sunday. The American Humanist Association will be there, and they encourage WES folks to pick up one of their signs! We will have a tall, vertical banner saying Washington Ethical Society, and encourage you to wear a WES t-shirt. Adam Goldberg will be at the rally and is happy to connect with people day-of (or before the day) via his cell: 301-438-2277.
This is an important day in DC and our country—and it is just one day. Wherever you are able to and choose to be on Sunday, our continued resistance of white supremacy in all its forms is a core part of our Ethical Culture heritage and our insistence on the worth of every person. Thank you for being a community that honors that worth.
Here are the details for Sunday:

Date:               Sunday, August 12

Rally:               Still Here, Still Strong: Rally at Freedom Plaza

Time:               12:00 – 3:00pm

Location:         Freedom Plaza, 14th & Pennsylvania, NW

One year after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, VA, white nationalists are bringing the same hate to DC.  Countering that message, a rally in Freedom Plaza from 12:00 – 3:00pm will celebrate the resilience and resistance of marginalized communities.  An All Souls Unitarian member who was injured in Charlottesville will speak at the rally.

The rally is planned to be a positive and nonconfrontational event. With safety in mind, Still Here, Still Strong is scheduled to end before the white nationalists are expected to be in the streets.  A safety plan is advised for those who wish to re-assemble at Lafayette Square after the Still Here, Still Strong rally to more directly counter the white nationalists who will be demonstrating there.

Contact Pablo DeJesus at info@uusj.org if you have questions specifically about the rally.

Warmly,
Amanda Poppei, Senior Leader
