WES Blog — Summer is almost here!

Summer is just around the corner and the SEEK program is gearing up for some fun, intentional, and meaningful learning experiences.  On June 24th we will begin our Makerspace curriculum!

What is Makerspace?  Makerspace provides the opportunity for children to create something out of nothing and explore their own interests.  It encourages children to explore, discover new ideas, create, cooperate, and build. It strengthens and hones critical thinking skills and boost self-confidence while introducing children to various types of technology and tools.  This curriculum challenges children to work together, in pairs or in groups, as they create things. This encourages relationship building while navigating collaboration and problem-solving situations.

Many of the items created with be shared with the congregation in a variety of ways!

To make this curriculum meaningful and successful we will require some Hi-tech and low-tech materials, tools, and supplies as donations.  We will share our needs in our weekly SEEK newsletters, items that will be needed for the following Sunday. So be on the lookout!

Watch us grow…along with our garden!

We have a garden again this year! Huge thanks to Gregg Scholten and his sons Logan and Foster who put the garden in, and to Susan and Deann Hughes who, along with their son Kenji, have come forward to support the garden through the season. Our kids will be helping to weed and harvest, sharing vegetables with our friends at Shepherd’s Table…and using some of the vegetables during our summer Makerspace curriculum!

We will still need a bit of gardening help throughout summer, so please let us know if you can lend a hand!

If you want to help with the garden, please contact Amanda at amandap@ethicalsociety.org.

Volunteers Needed

We are currently in the process of hiring support staff for the summer.  We also welcome volunteers who are parents and members of the congregation to help out and engage in our fun summer curriculum.  If you are interested in volunteering please email Ndara at ndaram@ethicalsociety.org.
