Call to Action from the WES Immigration Team

Dear WES friends,

We hope that all of you are well and taking good care of your family and friends.

Yesterday, every member of the D.C. City Council spoke of the need to fund time-critical relief for immigrants who are hungry and are slated to receive absolutely nothing from the Federal government during the pandemic. Despite the good intentions of the council members, a request for $5 million dollars for this purpose was left out of the relief bill that passed.  The D.C. immigrant community is in dire straights and Mayor Bowser appears to be blocking essential aid that will help all of us weather this storm.

Please see the attachment and contact your Council Member or Councilman BRANDON TODD, representative from Ward 4, where WES is located.  Let him know that you are a WES member and urge him to unlock the funds. Included in the attachment are other ways to further this effort, including contacting the Mayor’s Office and that of D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson.

Meanwhile, requests for food and other essentials are flooding the phones at Sanctuary DMV. Direct and immediate aid is needed now, even if our elected officials are unable to rally. You can help provide needed stop-gap food and more through the Go Fund Me link below.
