Inviting WES Members to Take Some Individual Actions to Honor the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

Great & Easy Things that YOU Can Do to Celebrate Earth Day
Our environment could use your local help. For example, as you walk, notice that some people leave food wrappers, empty bottles, even unused drinks. Perhaps you can educate others about environmental stewardship. MEANWHILE, if choosing to go for a walk – consider taking a collection bag — and perhaps wear safety gloves — to collect trash and recyclables as you go.
Now here are some choices to help take care of the world that we want to enjoy.[Which do you already do? Which one or more do you want to add for Earth Day?]
- Take a walk in your neighborhood and pick up trash.
- Pick up your pet’s waste! Timely removal keeps waste from washing into waterways and spreading bacteria and parasites.
- Go zero-waste for one day. Reduce, reuse, and recycle – don’t use a lot when a little will do.
- Switch to online billing and go paperless for your household budget. Saves trees and energy!
- Make a personal plastic audit. Check items around your house to fully understand how prevalent plastic is in your life and investigate ways to make simple swaps.
- Replace inefficient incandescent light bulbs with efficient LEDS. Reduce your carbon footprint by 450 pounds a year!
- Check your tires! Proper and consistent tire pressure can save $$ and contribute less carbon to the environment.
- Switch out single-use plastic bags for re-usable shopping totes.
- Tried Teleconferencing? Not just for work and school these days, connect with family and friends and support your mental health.
- Send a letter (snail or email) to your elected officials. See a sample here.
