Binsar Siahaan is home with his family, released from ICE custody in Baltimore. WES joined others in our community with calls to our representatives, with emails and tweets in resistance to his immoral arrest. Binsar was taken under false pretenses from the grounds of the Silver Spring church where he was sheltered.
The immediate outcry by community activists has accomplished what seemed nearly impossible. He was close to being deported after being imprisoned in a Georgia detention center when ICE efforts to bring him back to the area were successful.
As members of the Congregation Action Network (CAN), WES applauds CAN’s leadership and fast work that led to Binsar’s surprise release. For anyone who wishes to support the family in their legal struggle to remain in the community, donations are welcome to the Glenmont United Methodist Church Legal Fund,https://glenmontumc.breezechms.com/give/online
