Help Support Migrant Asylum Seekers in D.C.

WES is a long-standing member of the Congregation Action Network.

Congregations and volunteers are creating ways to support the migrants being bused to DC from TX and AZ.  Since busing started 5 months ago, over 7000 migrants have arrived at Union Station.  The migrants, most of whom are in transit to their final destinations, have several needs.

Cedar Lane UU Church in Bethesda is collecting toiletries and assembling them into kits for the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network whose volunteers are greeting and assisting arriving migrants.  These kits are of great help to the migrants, who usually arrive in DC with little or nothing.

Cedar Lane welcomes your help in purchasing kit contributions.  Their Wish List link to what is still needed to complete their first 1000 kits is here.  Your purchased items will be direct-shipped to Cedar Lane for assembly.  If you have any questions about this opportunity to help, email Cedar Lane kit coordinator Dianne Seiffert.at dianneseiffert@gmail.com

Other CAN congregations, in Montgomery County and around the DMV region, are planning their own projects to help – more on that will be forthcoming!  If you’d like to share what your CAN/Moco congregation is doing, let us know by emailing CANmoco@googlegroups.com.
