A Note from the AEU:
We write to solicit nominations for the American Ethical Union’s Elliott-Black Award that will be presented during the 2019 Assembly in Tampa, FL – June 20-23, 2019.
Both John Lovejoy Elliott and Algernon Black were known for their personal courage and for going beyond the usual limits in their commitment to social justice. Attached you will find a short description of their lives and a list of former recipients.
We want to remind Societies of the public relations aspects of the Award. Ideally, the recipient of the Elliott Black Award will have received press coverage nationally. Their deeds should reflect a commitment to ethical action.
We request that before nominating someone, you receive the approval of your Society’s Ethical Action Committee and your Board; that you then inform the nominee of your intentions; and while not promising anything, ascertain their availability and interest. They should know that a speech is expected at the Elliott-Black Banquet on Saturday, June 22nd . We will cover reasonable travel expenses, accommodation and meals for the recipient of this Award during the AEU’s 104th Assembly which will be held at the Holiday Inn Tampa Westshore Airport in Tampa, FL.
The deadline for nominations is March 22, 2019 and they MUST be submitted via the web form by clicking here: Nomination Form
Voting will also take place online and that voting must be completed by April 8, 2019.
