From Lyn Cox, Interim Leader |
Dear Ones, If the last month has taught us anything, it is that change is possible. We’ve also learned that change takes time, and that we humans bring a lot of emotions to the process of change. Adaptation is challenging, exciting, confusing, and invigorating. Felix Adler once said, “We cannot adopt the way of living that was satisfactory a hundred years ago. the world in which we live has changed, and we must change with it.” There is a lot to be said for embracing change, yet we also know that it takes time, energy, and resources. That’s why I’m inviting you to join me in supporting the Connect Campaign. The Connect Campaign is a fundraising effort to increase the unrestricted operating budget, beyond what is expected from pledges, so that the Washington Ethical Society can not only cope with this current chapter of history, but also emerge with new skills and new vision. We have already received some generous gifts to the Connect Campaign; we’re about 35% of the way to our initial goal. Members have already committed to help support the virtual choir and electronic communication while we’re socially distanced, to prepare for safety measures that will help us manage risk when we return to the building, and to upgrade our equipment so that we can continue to connect with WES members and visitors wherever they are in the world. I know that this year has not been kind to everyone. If you’re doing what you can to support WES, thank you. If you have resources that you can share beyond what you have already committed, please consider a gift to the Connect Campaign. I look forward to seeing what WES members can accomplish at this turning point in history. Take care, -Lyn |
