WES Blog — For Everything There Is a Season

I have always loved the Fall season.  The changing color of the leaves, the decreased the humidity, the gorgeous sunsets.  As a teacher for the past 8 years, I have looked at Fall as a time for me to restart and reboot for the school year ahead.  In addition to using the Fall season reboot, I also make New Year’s resolution like most people do. However, the 2019 year presented itself with many challenges that made it difficult for me to restart my year right.  As members of the WES Staff know, I lost my “little sister,” Amanda and my maternal grandmother, Missy, within 2 weeks of each other at the beginning of the year. These losses caused me to reflect on what each of those loved ones instilled in my life, and what each one of them would desire for me to produce in my life.  I pondered on this question and came to the realization that both Amanda and Missy had a intense desire to live life fully despite their seasons of sickness and challenges. While they had trying times in their health and ability to continue their daily activities, I find comfort in knowing that they lived out their purpose and continued to teach others about living until their season was over.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 states “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

I have appreciated working as the Teen Coordinator at Washington Ethical Society for the past 7 months.  My time here has impacted how I work with youth, shaped my philosophy on community, and granted me opportunities to build fruitful relationships.  As my season at WES is coming to a close, my season of teaching, enriching, and expanding my purpose is only starting. Thank you to the Teen Group and WES community for making this season at WES a valuable experience.
