This is a great opportunity to pick out a few new books your children and donate books for a great cause! Below you will find details about our book exchange:
On February 11th we will have our first WES Book Exchange. Everyone will be able to exchange gently used children’s books (in good condition) or new books. Below you will find the criteria for donating books:
For every TWO books that you donate, ONE will be exchanged for a book in our collection and the others will be donated to Reading Partners DC. Reading Partners DC is a Non-Profit organization that work with schools and communities to unlock the skills of students who struggle with reading. Their evidence-based curriculum, delivered by volunteers from the community, has been found to have positive and statistically significant impact on three different measures of student reading proficiency — reading comprehension, fluency, and sight-word reading.
Book Exchange Instructions:
As you arrive for platform (it may be helpful to arrive a few minutes early) you will give your book donations to Ndara or Melissa. You will be given 1 ticket per 2 books that you donate. Those tickets will serve as a reminder for how many books you are are allowed to choose for keeping when selecting books after platform. During platforms, the Theme Exploration classes (K-5th) will sort the books into age/genres to make choosing a new book easier. At the end of platform you may select book(s) in the downstairs lobby by using your tickets.
Here are the guidelines for acceptable book donations:
- Books for children: especially:
- Art, craft, cookbooks for children
- Children’s dictionaries or resource books
- Books on tape or CD
- Parent resource books
- Any books with sounds (must be in working condition)
- Books with children’s names will be accepted
- Coloring books
- Books may not have rips or missing or scribbled on pages
At the end of the event the books will be examined and sorted to be delivered to Reading Partners DC.
