Who’s Picking the Strawberries on Your Table?
There’s no better time than Thanksgiving not just to show our gratitude for the abundance in our lives, but to reflect on where that abundance comes from. WES family and friends are especially invited to do just that at the screening of the Immigration Film Festival’s feature film, Strawberry Days.
Strawberry Days follows the coming of age story of two teens, the son of Polish migrant workers and the daughter of the Swedish farmers that employ them. This beautifully filmed story follows them as their blossoming relationship is soon caught up in a web of social and class differences and the inequalities of the migrant labor system.
After the film, the topic will be brought home with an audience discussion led by Kate Cox, an expert on the global food economy who knows exactly who is picking the strawberries on your tables. Find out what this administration has in mind for our immigrant agricultural workers.
Strawberry Days will be shown the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 25th, at 7 pm at the GALA Theatre in Columbia Heights, DC. Tickets include a reception with finger foods. Easy access by Metro or car with $4 parking in the Giant Food parking area. Reserve your early-bird tickets for just $6 each: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/strawberry-days-tickets-35985263893
