Wrapping Up the UUA & AEU 2022 Conferences

Are you enjoying the summer? It’s a time to relax, go on vacation, and to attend the annual meetings for the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and the American Ethical Union (AEU)! WES is affiliated with both national organizations and sent several delegates to these conferences this summer. Trang Duong, Robyn Kravitz, and Sonja Kueppers represented WES at the UUA General Assembly in late June. Both Trang and Sonja also attended the AEU Business Meeting in late July along with other delegates, John Daken and Laura Steele.

“We were made for this moment. We are the people we have been waiting for. May we be the people that we are called to be.” – Susan Frederick-Gray

For a summary of the UUA General Assembly, click here. One of the most powerful and timely actions was the passage of an Action of Immediate Witness (AIW) named We Do Not Consent: Rejecting Legal Challenges to Abortion. This AIW was affirmed by the GA delegates as one of the issues we want the UUA to work on in the coming year.

At the AEU Business Meeting, John Daken was voted onto the AEU Board, while Sonja Kueppers stepped off the board, most recently in her position as the Board President. We really appreciate Sonja’s service to the AEU on WES’ behalf, and for her steady and powerful leadership. We look forward to seeing John’s contributions on the Board.

Congratulations to Ross Wells who was awarded the AEU Anna Garlin Spencer Volunteer Award for his long standing work and dedication to the Global Connections team and the Immigration Team in addition to his partnership with WES’ sister village of El Rodeo in El Salvador.
