The Global Connections team is proud to share some excellent news from our sister community in El Rodeo, El Salvador.
Firstly, we are celebrating the successful completion of the first phase from the Water Project! Every single family in the community was involved in the five months of hard work. Completion of stage one means:
- A water collection tank at the spring source
- Pumping station
- Tubing to carry the water up to the distributions tank and part of the distribution tubing as well as the secondary residential tubing throughout El Rodeo
- Solar panel power system
- Community members trained on how to maintain the pump system and solar panels
Secondly, the community leadership (the ADESCO) shared with us some other highlights:
- The community received approval from Shelter Canada to provide upgrades for more dignified housing to eight families.
- Because of the water project El Rodeo was invited to participate in a local NGO’s reforesting project. Families received fruit-bearing trees such as guava, orange, and lime that would otherwise cost $5 each.
- A large part of the community is participating in agroecological workshops that trains farmers on organic and sustainable methods, such as using organic fertilizer.
These are just snippets of a wonderful report we received. If you’re curious, please find the full report here.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the Global Connections team would like to thank the WES community for your years of support with El Rodeo. It’s been a long and windy road (quite literally when we are on our delegations), and great efforts like the Water Project would not be nearly as successful, or possible, without you.
